A native of Morgan City, Louisiana, James attended the University of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette. While still in college, he embarked on his career in the hospitality industry working in various capacities for the largest catering company in Southwest Louisiana at the time, A La Carte, Inc.

After volunteering for The Special Event in New Orleans in 2000, James moved to New Orleans to work for renowned chef Paul Prudhomme as Director of Special Events for both K-Paul's Catering Expedition and the French Quarter Restaurant, K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen. Currently, he is an Account Manager for Signature Destination Management handling various market segments.

James is active in several professional memberships including the Louisiana Society of Association Executives (LSAE), Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC). James was also instrumental as a founding member to form the New Orleans chapter of the International Special Events Society (ISES). James has held the positions of Vice-President, President and Immediate Past President of the local chapter. He also served on the International Committee for Education Content for the ISES Eventworld Annual Conference in 2008. He has also served as Committee Chair in various capacities twice by appointment of the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau to produce the MPI Professional Education Conference in New Orleans in 2006 and most the PCMA Annual Meeting in New Orleans in 2009. James is a member of the Preservation Resource Center (PRC), Louisiana Landmarks Society and the Bywater Neighborhood Association.
